IN-HOUSE FESTIVAL

From 12-16 April, Master Network FSS organized the first festival of the season: The In-House Festival. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the event was hosted fully online. The aim of this week was to provide students with an insight into different career opportunities after their graduation. During the In-House Festival, students had the opportunity to have a look behind the scenes at five different organizations in the field of spatial sciences and had the opportunity to get in touch with alumni of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences during various events.

On Monday the event was kicked off by the dean of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences: prof. dr. Johan Woltjer. After that, the first company visit was on the agenda: KAW architects. During this event, we learned how to turn numbers into reality, and how population projections are being used for the housing market.

On Tuesday, the municipality of Amsterdam gave us an insight in how such a large organization works from the insight. They taught us how to solve internal issues and showed how they make sure employees are on the same page internally, in order to work towards a desired end-result in good collaboration. After the workshop we had the opportunity to speak to and socialize with multiple colleagues of the municipality over a virtual drink!

On Wednesday, together with RECG (Real Estate Club Groningen), we virtually visited Abcnova for an In-Houseday. The In-Houseday gave an insight into what it is like to work for this company, and employees shared their vision on sustainable area development with us. The In-Houseday ended with a virtual speed date session between students and employees of Abcnova.

On Thursday, BBN Adviseurs provided us with a very interesting crash course in concept development. During this workshop, students were stimulated to think out of the box in order to find a solution for the current shortage on the housing market. In the end we shared the results. We were all surprised by the creative concepts that had been designed in this short time! After the workshop our virtual bar opened up again where students had the opportunity to meet with (young) BBN.

Last but not least, on Friday, Royal Schiphol Group took us on a virtual tour around the Pier that is currently under construction. A project manager taught us about the ins and outs of this mega project. To close the week, we opened up our virtual restaurant and delivered a dinner-box with a complete 3-course meal to all participants and alumni. Together we enjoyed a delicious dinner in small groups where students could interact with different alumni.
